Airsoft:About
From Airsoft
Welcome to the airsoft wikia. If you are here, you want to educate people about airsoft or want to learn about the sport. Airsoft is a sport that originated in Japan during the 1970s. It was created when people in the country had difficulties trying to obtain firearms. So they found a way to feed their hunger for real guns: a recreational device modeled after military firearms that was propelled by a spring and pressurized air. Ever since then, airsoft guns have been created that are powered by batteries and gas. Thanks to the breakthroughs in Airsoft technology, airsoft guns now have different firing modes: Single-shot, Semi-automatic, and automatic.
The sport migrated to America in the 1990s and has become quite popular. The basic idea of airsoft is to simulate armed combat by using plastic projectiles to act as bullets. They can range from $20 clear plastic pistols at Big 5, to $300 exact replicas.
Two of the major designers are Tokyo Marui and Classic Army. They are in fierce competition. Tokyo Marui guns are slightly cheaper, and Classic Army guns are made of fiberglass.
Because airsoft guns are replicas to actual firearms, heavy saftey precautions must be made. For one, you should NEVER play on a sidewalk. It is considered a bad idea as well to play backyard airsoft, unless you have alerted the neighbors and police. See also Saftey issues concerning airsoft
